In a significant political endorsement, former President Donald Trump has thrown his support behind Florida State Senator Joe Gruters to become the next chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC). This endorsement comes as the current RNC chair, Michael Whatley, prepares to shift his focus to a Senate campaign in North Carolina.
Trump made his endorsement public through a post on Truth Social, where he praised Whatley and signaled his confidence in Gruters' capabilities. "Fortunately, I have somebody who will do a wonderful job as the Chairman of the RNC," Trump stated. "His name is, Joe Gruters, and he will have my Complete and Total Endorsement."
Joe Gruters, 48, is not new to significant roles within the Republican Party, currently serving as the RNC treasurer and having previously chaired the Florida Republican Party. His potential candidacy had been floating around, especially noted when he was expected to run for the position of Florida's chief financial officer against a candidate supported by Governor Ron DeSantis.
Governor DeSantis has openly criticized Gruters' ambitions, suggesting a clear division within the party's state leadership. Earlier this month, DeSantis expressed his disapproval by stating, "Joe Gruters has taken major positions that are totally contrary from what our voter base wants to do."
As the political landscape adjusts to these new developments, the support from Trump might provide Gruters with the significant backing needed to secure his new role within the national structure of the Republican Party. Meanwhile, all eyes will also be on Whatley as he transitions from his RNC responsibilities to pursue a potentially challenging Senate seat in North Carolina, a move expected to be officially announced in the coming days.
The endorsement by Trump is likely to stir conversations and possibly realignments within the party as it gears up for the upcoming electoral cycles, reflecting the ongoing dynamics and power plays at play within the GOP.
