President Donald Trump has openly called on Chuck Grassley, the Senate Judiciary Chair, to push through judicial nominees without the support of Democratic senators from the nominees' home states. This move, according to Trump, could be easily achieved by Grassley, who he claims to have significantly aided during his reelection campaign in Iowa.

In a pointed message on Truth Social, Trump expressed his frustration with what he termed the "Blue Slip" problem—a traditional Senate practice that allows senators to block judicial nominees from their home state by not returning a blue-colored approval slip. Trump labeled prominent Democrats such as Schumer, Warner, Kaine, Booker, and Schiff as obstacles, calling them "sleazebags" who are obstructing the appointment of qualified Republican candidates.

Trump’s post emphasized the need for immediate action from Grassley, urging him to end the blue slip practice to prevent Democrats from exploiting what he sees as Republican weakness. "IMMEDIATELY, and not let the Democrats laugh at him and the Republican Party for being weak and ineffective," Trump wrote.

However, when questioned about Trump's remarks, Grassley appeared unswayed. With a history of more than five decades in politics, he reiterated his long-standing position on the importance of the blue slip process, indicating no plans for change. "I've already spoken about the blue slip problem. And I’ve got no more to say than what I've been saying for 50 years,” Grassley stated.

A spokesperson for Grassley further highlighted that the chairman has successfully navigated the committee process for U.S. Attorneys even with blue slips from Democratic senators, including those from Virginia and Minnesota. The statement underlined that all senators, regardless of party, have a role in the final confirmation of nominees, which includes considering the input of the nominees' home-state senators.
