Musk-Backed PAC Champions Controversial GOP Megabill Amidst Billionaire’s Criticism

In a striking turn of events, Building America’s Future (BAF), a Political Action Committee financially supported by Elon Musk, has allocated over one million dollars to support the recent legislative achievements of the White House, including a GOP domestic policy package. This move comes despite Musk’s harsh criticism of the bill, which he previously labeled as “a disgusting abomination.”

The new 30-second advertisement, named "Independence," is scheduled for a national broadcast on Fox News. It aims to applaud President Donald Trump for his role in passing the Republicans' "One Big, Beautiful Bill." This legislative package not only extends Trump’s 2017 tax cuts but also introduces other GOP initiatives, albeit at the cost of nearly $1 trillion in Medicaid cuts over the upcoming years.

The ad highlights the perceived benefits of the bill. “This Independence Day, President Trump and Congress made the working family tax cuts law," the advertisement will proclaim. It emphasizes the elimination of taxes on tips and overtime, a doubling of the child tax credit, and tax reductions for seniors, celebrating these changes as victories for working families.

Despite his influential role in BAF, Musk has been vocally opposed to the bill, calling it “utterly insane and destructive” and vowing to support primary challengers against any Republican who voted in favor of it. His opposition escalated to the point of declaring the creation of a new political entity, the America Party, following President Trump’s endorsement of the bill.

The tension between Musk and Trump intensified in June when Trump threatened to pull Musk’s governmental contracts in retaliation for the billionaire’s critique. Additionally, Musk controversially claimed that Trump was mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein files, adding another layer of complexity to their relationship.

However, BAF’s senior advisor, Generra Peck, expressed a starkly different view from Musk’s. Peck praised the leadership of President Trump, Leader John Thune, and Speaker Mike Johnson for their roles in pushing through the tax cuts, stating, “Their remarkable achievement will put America on a path to prosperity for years to come. At Building America’s Future, we could not be more proud to stand with an administration and GOP Congress that is truly building a brighter future for America.”

This endorsement by BAF underscores the often complex and contradictory nature of political funding and the personal beliefs of its contributors, illustrating a clear divide between Musk’s personal viewpoints and the actions of the PAC he supports.
