The controversy revolves around a three-year-old text message from Democrat Jay Jones, the party’s attorney general nominee, which suggested violent action against a former Republican House speaker. Despite condemning the message as “abhorrent,” Spanberger hesitated to withdraw her endorsement for Jones. Instead, she emphasized the role of voters in deciding his fate in the upcoming November 5th election. “The voters now have the information, and it is up to voters to make an individual choice based on this information,” Spanberger stated.
