Democratic Senate hopeful from Maine, Graham Platner, has announced his intention to remove a tattoo that bears a resemblance to a Nazi symbol. This decision comes in the wake of a series of damaging revelations about his past, including controversial social media posts. Platner, who regrets the tattoo he got nearly two decades ago, disclosed the issue during a recent episode of Pod Save America, in an effort to preempt further damage from emerging opposition research.

The tattoo, which looks similar to a Nazi skull and crossbones, was reportedly chosen from a selection on the wall of a tattoo parlor during a night out with fellow Marines in Croatia. Platner has stated he was unaware of its resemblance to Nazi imagery at the time. "It was not until I started hearing from reporters and DC insiders that I realized this tattoo resembled a Nazi symbol," Platner explained in a statement to POLITICO. He emphasized his disgust at the insinuation that he knew of the tattoo's connotations, asserting his plan to have it removed promptly.

These included remarks downplaying sexual assault in the military and advocating for violent political action.
