Speaker Mike Johnson has issued an urgent call for all House members to make their way back to Capitol Hill as preparations begin to vote on a crucial funding package. This legislative effort seeks to put an end to the 41-day-long government shutdown that has put numerous federal operations on hold.

Despite the Senate's pending final approval, the success of a procedural vote on Sunday has strongly indicated that the legislation will pass within the week. Although House members typically receive a 36-hour notice to return, Johnson has advised an immediate return due to ongoing air travel disruptions caused by the shutdown.

The Speaker plans to officially summon the members back to Washington the moment the Senate approves the funding package. This package is crucial as it aims to provide full-year funding for essential services including food aid, farm and veterans programs, and congressional operations. It also proposes to extend funding for most other federal departments and agencies through January 30.

Johnson, who chose to keep the House out of session for over 50 days as a strategic move to pressure Senate Democrats, declared a victory in the shutdown during a Monday morning appearance. He expressed confidence in securing the necessary votes to pass the funding package in the House, citing a recent conversation with President Donald Trump, who is reportedly eager to reopen the government.

"I think we will have the votes," Johnson stated confidently, after a brief meeting where he did not take questions. He later elaborated on his discussions with President Trump, highlighting the President's keenness to resume government operations. "As recently as last night, I was with him, and he told the press, 'We want to get the government open,'" Johnson recounted.
