Indiana State Senator Targeted in Swatting Incident After Trump Criticism on Redistricting

An Indiana Senate Republican, Greg Goode, found himself at the center of a dangerous hoax after President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment in him on social media. The incident, which local authorities identified as "swatting," occurred just hours after Trump's critique on Truth Social, where he labeled Goode a "RINO" and expressed his dissatisfaction over Goode's stance on redistricting.

According to Vigo County Sheriff Derek Fell, the Terre Haute Police Department received an alarming email late Sunday afternoon claiming harm had been done to individuals at a residence in southeastern Vigo County. Deputies responded to the address, which was identified as Senator Goode's home. Although initial attempts to contact those inside were unsuccessful, officers eventually confirmed that Goode and his household were safe and unharmed. An investigation into the incident confirmed it was a false report.

In response to the ordeal, Senator Goode issued a statement thanking local law enforcement for their professionalism. He described the incident as a victimization of his family, underscoring the severity of the prank.

This swatting event follows a contentious period in Indiana politics, where efforts to redraw congressional maps have stalled. On Friday, Senate President Pro Tempore Rodric Bray opted not to reconvene the chamber, halting progress on the redistricting process that would potentially benefit Republicans. President Trump had earlier threatened to publicize a list of Senate Republicans who opposed the redistricting plans, although no such list has been released so far.

Adding to the political tension, Goode hosted a town hall earlier in the month in Terre Haute to discuss redistricting. The event saw significant opposition to the proposal, with 71 attendees speaking against it and none in favor.

As Indiana lawmakers prepare to reconvene at the Statehouse for organization day this Tuesday, advocates for and against redistricting are gearing up for further debates. A rally by pro-redistricting advocates is expected, signaling ongoing disputes over the state's congressional boundaries.

The White House has yet to comment on the swatting incident or the broader issues surrounding the stalled redistricting efforts in Indiana.
