Heritage Foundation Trustee Resigns Amid Controversy Over Support for Tucker Carlson

Another prominent member of the Heritage Foundation, Robert P. George, has stepped down in protest against the organization’s defense of Tucker Carlson's contentious interview with Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes. In a detailed Facebook post, George expressed his inability to remain associated with the foundation unless there was a "full retraction" of a video by Heritage President Kevin Roberts, which defended the interview.

Roberts' video last month sparked widespread backlash for its perceived leniency towards both Carlson and Fuentes, despite Roberts' claims of disagreement with some of their views. He described Carlson as a "close friend" and criticized the "venomous coalition" attacking them, asserting his stance against the culture of "canceling" individuals.

The aftermath of the interview has illuminated deep divisions within conservative circles, particularly after significant figures like former President Donald Trump also came out in defense of Carlson. Trump emphasized media freedom, stating, "you can’t tell him who to interview."

Fuentes, known for his extremist views, has openly praised Adolf Hitler and made several antisemitic remarks, positioning "organized Jewry" as a threat to white culture. Roberts later admitted to a lack of knowledge about Fuentes, attributing the controversial script of his video to an aide who has since resigned.

Despite Roberts acknowledging his "serious mistake," George pointed out that their paths diverged on the corrective measures necessary. In his resignation, George emphasized the need for the Heritage Foundation's work to reflect a commitment to equality and respect for all individuals as creations in the image of God.

George, who holds a prestigious position at Princeton University, had served as a trustee since 2019. His departure follows the resignation of at least five members of the foundation’s antisemitism task force, highlighting the ongoing internal turmoil within the organization.

A spokesperson for the Heritage Foundation has yet to respond to requests for comment on this unfolding situation.
