Schumer Criticizes DOJ Over Withheld Epstein Files, Alleges 'Lawlessness'

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has openly criticized the Department of Justice for failing to provide Congress with an unredacted list of political figures mentioned in the Jeffrey Epstein investigation documents. In a stern message shared on X, Schumer condemned what he described as a "lawlessness" within the Trump-era DOJ, asserting his commitment to unveiling the full extent of the files.

"Trump’s DOJ has failed to submit a report to Congress, which is required to include a list of all government officials and politically exposed persons named or referenced in the released materials, without redactions," Schumer stated. He posed a direct question in his message: "What are they trying to hide?"

Despite the release of thousands of documents last month as part of the Epstein Files Transparency Act, Schumer and other lawmakers have voiced concerns about the heavy redactions and the mysterious removal of some documents shortly after their initial publication. The deadline for the DOJ to clarify these redactions was last Friday, yet the department has remained silent on the matter.

Adding to the tension, the DOJ disclosed last month the discovery of over a million additional documents potentially related to Epstein, suggesting a delay of several more weeks before their full release could be realized. This has only intensified scrutiny and impatience among those eager for transparency.

“It’s been 17 DAYS since the Trump DOJ first broke the law and failed to release all the Epstein files,” Schumer noted. He further highlighted, “It’s been 14 DAYS since Trump’s DOJ released anything at all — with the DOJ doing everything in its power to delay and obfuscate.”

The DOJ has not responded to requests for comment on Schumer’s accusations or the ongoing delays in document release. This lack of communication has spurred further frustration and speculation about the contents of the unreleased files and the identities potentially involved. As Congress and the public alike await answers, the controversy surrounding the Epstein case continues to unfold, with potentially significant implications for many high-profile individuals.
