Rep. Jason Crow Demands Evidence Preservation in Failed Indictment Attempt by U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro

In a bold move on Wednesday, Representative Jason Crow (D-Colo.) called on Jeanine Pirro, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, to preserve all evidence related to her office's failed attempt to indict him and five other Democratic lawmakers. This development followed closely on the heels of Pirro's unsuccessful bid to secure a criminal indictment against the group, who last year produced a video urging military personnel to defy illegal orders.

Rep. Crow's attorney, Abbe Lowell, sent a stern letter to Pirro, denouncing the effort to secure the indictments as a severe misuse of prosecutorial power. Lowell, known for representing numerous adversaries of former President Donald Trump, warned of potential legal consequences should Pirro's office fail to maintain evidence or continue pursuing the case.

In the letter, Lowell expressed dismay not just at the failed indictment but at the attempt itself, accusing the Trump administration of manipulating the justice system for political retribution. "Donald Trump’s abuse of America’s justice system is chilling and indefensible," Lowell stated, underscoring the public's demand for accountability in face of these alleged abuses.

Pirro’s office has not yet responded to these allegations.

This incident is part of a broader pattern under the Trump administration, which has seen several failed attempts to indict political opponents, including New York Attorney General Letitia James and former FBI Director James Comey. The rarity of a grand jury rejecting indictments highlights the unusual nature of these cases, particularly in liberal jurisdictions like New York and the D.C. area.

During a press conference, Senators Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) and Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), also targeted for indictment, criticized Pirro's actions as an abuse of power intended to silence dissent. The controversy stems from a video released in November 2025, which led President Trump to accuse the involved lawmakers of "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR," a charge he later downplayed.

The confrontation underscores a growing tension between the administration and its critics, with significant implications for the integrity of the U.S. judicial system. As the situation unfolds, the call for preserving evidence may serve as a crucial step in safeguarding democratic processes and ensuring governmental accountability.
