Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has committed to voluntarily testify before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee to discuss the extent of his past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. This announcement was made by the committee's chair, James Comer, who praised Lutnick's willingness to support the committee's inquiry into the disgraced financier.

"I commend his demonstrated commitment to transparency and appreciate his willingness to engage with the Committee," said Comer, a Kentucky Republican. "I look forward to his testimony." Although the date for Lutnick’s deposition has not been set, his proactive decision to appear alleviates the need for a subpoena, which was being considered as a next step by some members of the committee.

This development comes amid heightened scrutiny over Lutnick's connections with Epstein, which surfaced after the Justice Department released extensive details of their association. Despite not being accused of any wrongdoing linked to Epstein's criminal activities, Lutnick has faced significant pressure from Democrats to resign his post. Clinton, who stated her interactions with Lutnick were solely about response efforts to the 9/11 attacks, denied any recollection of meeting Epstein and has not been implicated in any misconduct.
