While Kean has confirmed his bid for a third term and faces no challengers in the upcoming Republican primary, the race is heating up with four Democrats lined up for his seat. These include Rebecca Bennett, a former Navy helicopter pilot; Michael Roth, a veteran of the Small Business Administration; Tina Shah, a medical doctor; and entrepreneur Brian Varela.

Despite the congressman's silence on the specifics of his illness, he has made assurances about his recovery and imminent full disclosure. “I am focused on my recovery and under the advice of healthcare professionals, I will transition from virtual work to in-person work within a matter of weeks,” Kean stated. Kean’s absence and the backdrop of former President Donald Trump’s unpopularity have bolstered Democratic confidence in flipping the seat. Trump, however, endorsed Kean again recently, commending his tireless efforts.
