Nancy Mace may have lost President Donald Trump’s blessing, but she remains undeterred in her run for governor of South Carolina. The decision, which comes amid a contentious primary, is believed to be influenced by her pivotal role in releasing the controversial Jeffrey Epstein files — a move that has evidently cost her Trump's endorsement.
Trump recently threw his support behind Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, leaving Mace and other candidates vying for a crucial spot in the runoff election. Despite this setback, Mace maintains a defiant stance, emphasizing her commitment to her principles over political gain.
“That’s the sole reason I didn't get the endorsement, because I voted to release the Epstein files, and I'm okay with that,” Mace asserted to POLITICO. She has been vocal about her efforts to combat sex trafficking and child abuse, stating these are causes she will continue to champion, irrespective of the election's outcome.
Mace’s campaign has been a rollercoaster of high-profile endorsements and significant controversies. From verbal spats at a local airport to accusations against her ex-fiancé, her path has been anything but smooth. Yet, these incidents have not deterred her; if anything, they've added fuel to her fiery campaign rhetoric.
Despite her challenges, Mace has not invested heavily in traditional advertising, spending zero on television and minimal amounts on digital platforms. This strategy stands in stark contrast to the massive expenditures by her opponents, who have poured millions into the race.
As the primary approaches, Mace reflects on her journey and her future in politics. Having promised to serve no more than six years in Congress, she faces her current race with the possibility that it could cap her political career — at least for the foreseeable future.
“I’m not running for Congress again,” Mace confirmed, doubling down on her commitment to term limits and leaving her political future hanging in the balance as the primary looms. Whatever the outcome, Mace’s campaign is a testament to her tenacity and willingness to stand alone against the tide in her party.
