Revelations in Closed-Door Testimony: Epstein’s Assistant Linked Him with Trump

In a revealing closed-door testimony on Tuesday, Lesley Groff, who served as Jeffrey Epstein's assistant for nearly two decades, disclosed to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that she facilitated phone conversations between the disgraced financier and former President Donald Trump. This came as part of an ongoing investigation into Epstein's controversial connections and activities.

Rep. Stephen Lynch (D-Mass.) shared with the media that Groff, who began working for Epstein in 2001, arranged "multiple phone calls" between Epstein and Trump before he ascended to the presidency. Meanwhile, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) noted that these communications were not frequent but did indeed occur as per Groff's account.

The testimony is part of broader efforts to uncover the extent of Epstein's network and influence. Despite claims from Trump asserting that he severed ties with Epstein long before his death, persistent questions have loomed over his administration's handling of matters related to Epstein. The White House, through spokesperson Abigail Jackson, stated that Trump has been "totally exonerated" concerning any dealings with Epstein and emphasized his cooperation with legislative subpoenas and transparency initiatives.

Groff, who has not been charged with any crime, has been a contentious figure due to her long-standing association with Epstein. She was implicated in a class-action lawsuit against Epstein’s estate executors for her role in managing logistical aspects of Epstein’s operations, including travel and scheduling for young women. Documents from a 2008 non-prosecution agreement also named her as an unindicted co-conspirator.

During the testimony, Groff attempted to distance herself from Epstein's criminal activities, asserting that she did not witness any misconduct. However, this claim was met with skepticism from some committee members. Rep. James Walkinshaw (D-Va.) expressed doubts about the plausibility of her unawareness of Epstein’s actions considering her role in his enterprise.

The committee's interactions with Groff are a crucial piece in piecing together the complex puzzle of Epstein’s interactions and the potential complicity of his associates. As investigations continue, the testimonies and documents unearthed in these proceedings will likely shed more light on the dark corners of Epstein's extensive and influential network.
