While other states are intensifying their scrutiny over FIFA's ticket pricing tactics for the upcoming World Cup, Missouri has decided to stand back, for now. The state’s Attorney General’s Office has confirmed that it is not initiating a probe into FIFA’s pricing strategies, despite several complaints and investigations cropping up across the country.

Colbey Stosberg, a public affairs specialist at the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, emphasized that the state’s primary concern at the moment is the prevention of scams that could target fans attending matches. "We are focusing on the unfortunate opportunity it creates for scammers to exploit travelers and match attendees," Stosberg noted.

Missouri's Arrowhead Stadium is set to be an active venue in the World Cup festivities, hosting a total of six matches including a quarterfinal. The highlight match featuring Argentina vs. Algeria is eagerly awaited next Tuesday, marking Kansas City’s tournament debut.

Despite the growing discontent among other states, Missouri has yet to receive complaints that would warrant a formal investigation. "We haven’t received any complaints about purportedly deceptive pricing strategies yet,” said Stosberg. "If we do happen to receive those, we will review the complaint and determine any appropriate actions to be taken."

The lack of immediate action from Missouri contrasts sharply with steps taken in Texas, New York, New Jersey, and California. Just this Tuesday, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton launched a new investigation following allegations that FIFA had misled fans over seat locations, potentially coercing them into paying premiums for less desirable views. Similarly, New York and New Jersey have been jointly investigating since May, and California’s Attorney General Rob Bonta has actively sought information from FIFA to assess potential violations of state law.

As the global excitement builds with the approaching World Cup matches, the focus in Missouri remains on ensuring a safe and scam-free experience for fans, while keeping a watchful eye on developments regarding ticket pricing strategies. As it stands, the Missouri Attorney General’s Office holds its cards close, ready to act if the situation demands.
