During a contentious Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing on Wednesday, Todd Blanche was pushed into the spotlight over his management of the Jeffrey Epstein case files. Blanche, a key figure in the ongoing investigation, was asked to directly engage with Epstein victims present during the hearing but stated he was unable to meet with them due to legal constraints.

Senator Dick Durbin, the leading Democrat on the Committee, challenged Blanche to meet directly with ten victims who attended the session. Blanche responded, explaining his inability to engage personally due to the presence of legal representation for the victims. "They have lawyers, as you know. I’m prohibited from meeting directly with them," Blanche clarified. He further mentioned that while he has engaged with the counsel for the survivors, direct meetings with the victims are not permissible.

Durbin expressed dissatisfaction with Blanche's response, emphasizing the importance of personal interaction. "I think you ought to be in the room because you ought to hear this. You have a singular responsibility for these files," Durbin remarked, highlighting the gravity of the situation and the need for direct accountability.

Earlier in the hearing, Committee Chair Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) provided Blanche an opportunity to defend his actions regarding the Epstein files. Blanche assured the committee of his commitment to justice, stating, "If we learn today, if we learn next week, if we learn next month that there’s an individual that we can investigate, indict and prosecute out of the Epstein files, you better believe it we will."

Despite the release of millions of documents earlier this year related to Epstein, the Justice Department has yet to prosecute anyone connected to the case. This lack of action comes despite former President Donald Trump's orders to investigate Democrats linked to Epstein. The Manhattan U.S. attorney's office has shown no indications that the probe is progressing.

The hearing highlighted ongoing concerns and frustrations regarding the handling of the Epstein investigation, with victims and their representatives seeking more direct involvement and accountability from those overseeing the case.
