Platner, a resident of nearby Sullivan, withdrew from his Senate campaign following a July report by POLITICO, where he was accused by a former girlfriend of sexual assault in 2021, allegations that he has vehemently denied.

They have attempted to connect Troy Jackson—who replaced Platner in the Senate race—to the embattled former candidate. Jackson, a former Maine Senate President and one-time gubernatorial candidate, had endorsed Platner and appeared at rallies with him before urging him to withdraw post-allegation.
