In a significant political maneuver, GOP Representative Russell Fry has endorsed Senator Darline Graham for a full term in the U.S. Senate, boosting her campaign in what has become a fiercely contested primary runoff against Representative Ralph Norman in South Carolina.

Fry, who had his own ambitions in the snap primary following the passing of Senator Lindsey Graham, secured third place in the initial voting phase. His decision to support Darline Graham was revealed in a statement on Friday, urging his supporters to rally behind her for the upcoming election on August 25. "I’m asking everyone who supported our campaign to join me in supporting Darline Graham for the United States Senate,” Fry announced.

This endorsement could prove pivotal for Graham, especially as it helps consolidate support in Fry's conservative coastal stronghold, potentially balancing Norman's influence in the Upstate region. Darline Graham, who has led the South Carolina Commission for the Blind since 2019, received an early endorsement from former President Donald Trump, enhancing her profile in the race.

The endorsement comes after a heated lead-up to the August 11 primary, where Graham and Fry exchanged sharp criticisms through various media, including attack ads funded by their campaigns and supporting groups. Fry had accused Graham of significantly increasing the budget and size of the Commission for the Blind, while a pro-Graham PAC released a controversial ad depicting Fry unfavorably.

As the runoff approaches, both Graham and Norman are keen on securing influential endorsements to build a majority coalition. Graham's campaign recently gained support from South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evette, and GOP nominee for Agriculture Commissioner Cody Simpson. Norman, on the other hand, has received backing from prominent figures like Senators Rick Scott and Mike Lee, as well as former U.N. Ambassador and South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.

The political landscape is further complicated by former Governor Mark Sanford, another candidate in the initial Senate primary, who has yet to endorse any candidate in the runoff.
