$15 Million Ad Blitz: Paxton's Allies Counter Democratic Surge in Texas Senate Race

Allies of Texas GOP Senate candidate Ken Paxton are unleashing a $15 million advertising campaign, signaling a major escalation in his battle against Democrat James Talarico. This inaugural ad buy aims to boost Paxton's visibility across 18 Texas markets, beginning Tuesday.

The campaign, orchestrated by the Lone Star Liberty PAC, introduces two new ads that underscore contrasting political visions. The first ad praises Paxton's tenure as Attorney General, spotlighting his legal battles against corporate giants like Kellogg's and tech behemoths Meta and Google to champion consumer and privacy protections. "When they come after Texans, he comes after them," declares the ad’s voiceover, emphasizing Paxton’s defensive stance for Texas residents.

Conversely, the second ad launches a direct attack on Talarico, accusing him of favoring Chinese interests over Texan welfare. This includes highlighting Talarico’s legislative decisions that allegedly facilitate Chinese economic encroachment, particularly near strategic military bases. "China’s got Talarico. Texas needs Ken Paxton," the ad contends, framing the race as a choice between national security and foreign exploitation.

Sam Cooper, a spokesperson for Lone Star Liberty, criticized Talarico’s record sharply. "James Talarico voted to sell Texas land to China, pushed a Texas Green New Deal that would gut our oil and gas jobs, and stood with criminals over cops," Cooper stated. He emphasized that Talarico's policies are portrayed as radically out of step with Texas values.

This large-scale ad initiative emerges amidst financial disparities revealed in recent Federal Election Commission filings. While Talarico boasts a substantial $21.5 million war chest, Paxton trails with just $1.8 million. The financial imbalance has previously allowed Talarico to dominate airwaves with a spending spree of $39 million on television advertising since the March primary.

Talarico responded to Paxton's campaign by airing his own negative ad last Saturday, painting Paxton as "the most corrupt politician in Texas" and spotlighting his impeachment saga.

Despite the traditional Republican stronghold in Texas, recent polls, including a Texas Public Opinion Research poll, show Talarico with a 6-point lead over Paxton. This has stirred anxieties within the GOP about Paxton’s viability in the upcoming election.

In light of these concerns, some Republicans have urged former President Donald Trump to allocate funds from the MAGA Inc. treasury to bolster Paxton’s campaign. Trump, with over $400 million at his disposal, has previously pledged financial support for Paxton, indicating possible last-minute reinforcements for the embattled senator.

As Election Day approaches, the stakes are high, and the battle for Texas intensifies, painting a dramatic picture of political rivalry and strategic campaigning that could redefine the state's political landscape.
