Dubbed the "Love Thy Neighbor" food drive, the campaign seeks to bring together people from various political backgrounds to address a common need: affordability.

As wealthy Republicans prepare to convene in Dallas, where entry fees reach as high as $20,000, Talarico is focusing on grassroots mobilization. "Next week, billionaire mega-donors and their puppet politicians will gather at a convention in Dallas to clink champagne glasses and toast their own corruption," Talarico stated, criticizing the lavish spending and policies that he believes exacerbate economic inequality. "We’ll be doing something different. We’re bringing Republicans, Democrats, and Independents together to collect groceries for our neighbors who have been screwed over by corrupt politicians."

The food drive is scheduled to run from Sunday, September 6, to Wednesday, September 9, coinciding with the start of the GOP convention. The campaign plans to engage volunteers across the state to collect, sort, and donate groceries, specifically targeting middle-class Texans who are struggling with high food prices. The initiative not only serves as a direct response to the GOP gathering but also as a platform for Talarico to connect with the community and media from a large warehouse located near the convention center.

Talarico’s approach has resonated with many Texans, as evidenced by a recent poll conducted by Texas Public Opinion Research, which shows him leading his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, by 48 percent to 42 percent. This lead comes at a critical time as President Donald Trump has announced plans to campaign for Paxton soon.

With the "Love Thy Neighbor" food drive, Talarico aims to demonstrate a commitment to bipartisanship and community support, contrasting sharply with the perceived exclusivity and self-interest at the GOP convention. "Texans across the political spectrum will come together to build community, show up for their neighbors, and take power back for working people," his campaign emphasized, underlining a message of unity and collective action in the face of political and economic challenges.
