Democrats' Senate Super PAC Hits Record $354M in Fundraising as Election Nears

Democrats' primary Senate super PAC, the Senate Majority PAC (SMP), is set to report a groundbreaking $354 million raised through October 14, marking a significant surge in contributions as they push to take control of the Senate. This includes an impressive $88 million collected in just the first two weeks of October, showcasing a robust mobilization of financial resources in the critical final phase of the election cycle.

The SMP disclosed its fundraising figures to POLITICO before the Federal Election Commission's reporting deadline, highlighting that this cycle's totals have surpassed any of its previous efforts. As of mid-October, the PAC reported $32.7 million on hand, ready to be deployed in key battleground states.

Lauren French, a spokesperson for SMP, emphasized the strategic timing and impact of these funds. "This is already the strongest cycle in Senate Majority PAC’s history, and it’s arriving exactly when it counts,” she stated. “We’re on the air across the battleground through Election Day, and every dollar is going toward beating price-gouging Republicans and winning back the Senate."

This year's fundraising efforts by SMP have already exceeded the $306 million raised during the entire 2024 campaign cycle, which was its previous record, according to FEC filings.

Despite these impressive numbers, SMP still trails behind its Republican counterpart, the Senate Leadership Fund (SLF), which has been buoyed by massive donations from figures like Elon Musk and other GOP megadonors. Musk's contribution of $158 million in the third quarter significantly bolstered SLF's finances, enabling substantial support for GOP candidates, including Texas' Ken Paxton.

As of September 30, the SLF had raised over $423 million for the cycle, maintaining a strong financial advantage. This has been somewhat countered by Democrats through more effective candidate-level fundraising, which has allowed them to remain competitive on the airwaves despite the GOP's larger war chest.

With the election drawing near, the battle for the Senate is intensifying. Republicans are hoping to retain control of at least one chamber of Congress, leveraging both a favorable map and substantial external funding. As both parties ramp up their efforts, the financial arms race will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping the outcomes of the upcoming elections.
