On March 5th, I stood before this Council asking you to consider a different approach: Self-build. Instead of approving 600+ units of mass-density housing to get 141 affordable ones, Bridgewater could have built exactly what we needed. We could have fulfilled our mandate without surrendering Bridgewater to overdevelopment.

Let’s be clear: These "mass-density" projects are a Trojan horse. They are labeled "affordable," but they deliver urban-style congestion, skyrocketing traffic, and a permanent strain on our schools and infrastructure. Every resident in this township knows what follows: Higher property taxes, lower property values, and a worse quality of life. This Council has a sacred obligation to mitigate this growth, not facilitate it.

When I asserted that the Administration had failed to study the feasibility of self-building, they claimed they had. So I filed an OPRA request on March 9th. It took this Administration 22 business days—more than triple the legal limit—to deliver a "no-comment." They claim only one document exists, but they’ve locked it behind "attorney-client privilege."

You don’t need to be a genius to read between the lines. There was no financial analysis. There was no due diligence. Tax King Mayor Moench dismissed a viable solution to protect our township before he even looked at the numbers.

This isn’t just laziness; it’s a pattern of lies and deception. For years, we have been told by Tax King Moench that his 30% municipal tax increases are the result of "property values." That is a lie. When values go up, a responsible leader adjusts the tax rate to fit the budget. Instead, this Mayor has used your home’s value as an excuse for his high-tax agenda.

Look at your sewer bills—up over 35% in just 4 years. Tax King Mayor Moench says it’s a utility fee. The truth? It’s a second tax. Last year alone, $730,000 was funneled from the sewer budget into the general fund. The Mayor set this up to pay for out-of-control expenditures and to keep his inner circle of friends flush with taxpayer cash.

Bridgewater is being made "unaffordable" by a Mayor who is too lazy to explore alternatives to overdevelopment and too comfortable spending your hard-earned money on excessive growth and his personal childhood friends —including the Township Attorney sitting right here*.

Mayor Moench calls it "progress," but the taxpayers call it a betrayal. Stop the lies, stop the overdevelopment, and start representing the people who actually pay the bills in this township.

**Image is satire representing Mayor Moench's legacy of having the highest tax increases of any prior Bridgewater mayor while also deceiving the voters about his agenda, taxes and overdevelopment. Unfortunately for us, he truly has earned the title of "Tax King" of Bridgewater Township.
